Uzbekistan has a continental climate: hot summers, cold winters, and two magical shoulder seasons that 90% of smart travelers target. This guide breaks down every month so you can pick yours by goal — not by guesswork.
The two-line answer
Best overall: late March to mid-May, and mid-September to early November. Avoid: July and August (40°C+ in Bukhara and Khiva) and late December to early February (freezing, some sights close early).

March
Highs 12–18°C, occasional rain. Almond and apricot blossoms in Fergana Valley. Navruz (Persian New Year) on March 21 — biggest festival of the year, expect bonfires, sumalak, and dancing in every public square. Hotels still cheap; crowds start arriving end of month.
April
Highs 20–26°C. The single best month for sightseeing. Wildflowers across the steppe, perfect Registan light, comfortable in Bukhara and Khiva. Book Afrosiyob trains 1–2 weeks ahead — Europeans arrive in force.
May
Highs 26–32°C. Still beautiful but warming fast in the desert cities. Strawberries in every bazaar. Last comfortable month before summer. First half of May is peak; second half thins out as locals leave for summer.
June
Highs 33–38°C. Hot but dry — bearable if you start early and rest midday. Cherries, mulberries, first melons. Hotel prices drop 20–30%. Good for travelers who hate crowds and don't mind heat.
July
Highs 38–43°C in Bukhara, Khiva and Termez. Brutally hot. Locals retreat to Chimgan mountains. Only go if you have to — and stick to Tashkent (cooler, more shade) or mountain regions.
August
Same as July, with melon season (the real reason to come): Uzbek melons are legendary, especially the gulabi and torpeda varieties sold by the truckload in August. Cheap hotels and empty monuments are the upside.
September
Highs 28–33°C, dropping fast by month's end. Grape harvest, pomegranates appearing. Second-best month after April. Crowds return mid-month, peak by October.
October
Highs 20–26°C. The other perfect month. Plane trees turning gold in Samarkand, ideal hiking weather in Nuratau and Chimgan. Book everything ahead — this is high season.
November
Highs 12–18°C, cold nights. First two weeks still great; after that, gray and quiet. Tour groups gone, prices dropping. Bring layers.
December
Highs 4–9°C, possible snow in Tashkent and Samarkand. Atmospheric — Registan dusted with snow is unforgettable — but several smaller museums close earlier and outdoor cafés disappear. Ski season starts at Amirsoy and Beldersay near Tashkent.
January
Coldest month. Highs 2–6°C, lows well below freezing. Cheapest hotels of the year. Only for travelers who genuinely want winter or are combining with skiing.
February
Still cold but lengthening days. Last cheap month. Late February is fine if you don't mind layered clothing and shorter daylight.
